What Aledo’s golf cart ordinance requires

Aledo adopted a golf cart ordinance on Sept. 17, 2026. Carts can use city streets posted 35 mph or less. They can’t drive on farm-to-market roads like FM 1187 or on state and federal highways, but they can cross them at an intersection.

The driver needs a valid driver’s license, and every rider stays seated and uses any seat belts the cart came with. Each cart needs:

  • A Texas golf cart plateFrom your county tax office.
  • Headlamps & taillampsTwo of each, working.
  • ReflectorsTwo amber in front, two red in back.
  • Parking brakeIn working order.
  • MirrorsSo you can see traffic behind you.
  • Slow-moving vehicle emblemMounted on the back.
  • InsuranceProof of coverage on the cart.

What our kit covers

We install headlamps and taillamps, turn signals, reflectors, mirrors, a horn, seat belts and the slow-moving vehicle emblem, and check the parking brake while the cart’s in the shop. Tell us what your cart already has and we’ll quote only what’s missing.

Getting your plate

Golf cart plates come from your county tax office: Parker County for Aledo, Weatherford, Willow Park and Hudson Oaks, and Tarrant County for Benbrook and Fort Worth. Call ahead to ask what to bring.

Outside Aledo, Texas law lets golf carts use some roads posted 35 mph or less, and each city can add its own rules. Check yours before you drive on the street. Our golf cart rules guide has more.
